August TBR!

Hello, August! This month features sequels, except for one. (Spot it, lmao) I find myself reading series most of the time, and this TBR reminded me of that. I need a really great standalone soon, haha. As always, I am open to recommendations! 😀

ice like fire
Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch

It’s been three months since the Winterians were freed and Spring’s king, Angra, disappeared—thanks largely to the help of Cordell.

Meira just wants her people to be safe. When Cordellan debt forces the Winterians to dig their mines for payment, they unearth something powerful and possibly dangerous: Primoria’s lost chasm of magic. Theron sees this find as an opportunity—with this much magic, the world can finally stand against threats like Angra. But Meira fears the danger the chasm poses—the last time the world had access to so much magic, it spawned the Decay. So when the king of Cordell orders the two on a mission across the kingdoms of Primoria to discover the chasm’s secrets, Meira plans to use the trip to garner support to keep the chasm shut and Winter safe—even if it means clashing with Theron. But can she do so without endangering the people she loves?

Mather just wants to be free. The horrors inflicted on the Winterians hang fresh and raw in Januari—leaving Winter vulnerable to Cordell’s growing oppression. When Meira leaves to search for allies, he decides to take Winter’s security into his own hands. Can he rebuild his broken kingdom and protect them from new threats?

As the web of power and deception weaves tighter, Theron fights for magic, Mather fights for freedom—and Meira starts to wonder if she should be fighting not just for Winter, but for the world.

I have been eyeing Ice Like Fire with trepidation, to be honest. The reviews don’t give me much hope, but I’ll do it. I’ll dive straight into this one! (If Meira doesn’t want Theron, can I have him? I loved him in Snow Like Ashes.)

queen of someday

Queen of Someday by Sherry D. Ficklin

Guuuurl have I told y’all how much I love anything that has to do with Russia?! This is a retelling of sorts (can you retell the life of a person?? Actual question.) of the teenage life of Catherine the Great, and it apparently has its fair share of love triangles, but we’ll see!

sweep in peace

Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

I loved Clean Sweep, so I’m excited for Sweep in Peace! Magical innkeepers, yes please! I am here for magical inns and intergalactic guests. I remember liking the illustrations included in the first book, so I’m hoping this one has illustrations as well, haha.

the immortal heights

The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas

Let me tell you guys: the covers of this series are so great. They’re vibrant, colorful, and so eye-catching. The story is quite good as well! I haven’t read the summary for this one and I’m planning to hold off reading it until I actually finish the book. This is also the final book in the series, so there’ll be a series wrap-up after I read this 😀

this shattered world

This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Aaaand I’m returning to this post-apocalyptic, space opera world! Oh god, after These Broken Stars I have a faint idea of what to expect from the books in this series, but this looks even more intense than the first book. Excited to read this though!

Have you guys read any of the books on my TBR list for this month? And what are you planning to read? 😀

  1. I probably will be reading the first book of the Starbound series, I ordered the book. After listening to Illuminae I’m curious of other works of Kaufman and Kristoff.

  2. I’m a sucker for series too. Even when I tell myself I won’t start a new one, I do ten times over. Oh well. I love Ilona Andrews books and really want to try Clean Sweep and Sweep in Peace. I hope you end up enjoying it. The other books all sound good too–although I’d have to start with the first books. These Broken Stars is on my radar, but I haven’t added it officially to my wish list yet.

    • I haven’t tried Ilona Andrews’ other books! I’m eyeing Kate Daniels but the sheer number of books in the series is a bit intimidating. I’m liking Clean Sweep so far! (And the illustrations included are a real plus)

I liked These Broken Stars, it was surprising in a good way. I didn’t see some of the plot twists in the book.
